Historical Note:

Dr. Zilboorg was psychoanalyst and historian of psychiatry who is remembered  for situating psychiatry  within a broad sociological and humanistic context i nis many writings and lectures.

Zilboorg was born in Kyiv and studied medicine in St. Petersburg, where he workded under Vladimir Bekhterev.

Zilboorg emigrated to the United States in 1919 and a  time supported  himself by translating literature from Russian to English while studying at Columbia University.

From  the 1930s onward, Zilboorg produced  several volumes of lasting importance of the history of psychiatry.
