This Collection overall comprises correspondences between D.W. Winnicott and the officials of the LAPSI between the years of 1960 and 1962. Largely the content of the correspondences relates to the visit for lecturing of D.W. Winnicott to America and specifically to Los Angeles. Only one document is a paper written by D.W. Winnicott, namely, RG-37.01, Dr. D.W. Winnicott, “Dependence in Infant Care, in Child Care and in Psychoanalysis.”
In the letters circulated between D.W. Winnicott and the officials of LAPSI, logistic of his lecturing and travel was discussed. The terms of his visit had been at least two times postponed, first in 1960 and second in the Spring of 1962. D.W. Winnicott arrived to Los Angeles in the beginning of October of 1962.
He proposed a broad subject for his lecture, namely he wrote, “Would it be suitable if I were to speak on the subject of ‘Dependence in Infant Care, in Child Care and in Psychoanalysis?’
D.W. Winnicott stayed in Los Angeles from October 1 to October 5 of 1962. On October 3, 1962, he lectured on the topic, “A Personal View of the Kleinian Contribution to the Theory of Emotional Development at Early Stages.”
This Collection also contains documents issued with regard to visa support for D.W. Winnicott by the LAPSI officials.
